Dan Gold is an Award-Winning Director of Photography/Filmmaker in Brooklyn, NY

Daniel B. Gold won the 2002 Sundance “Excellence in Cinematography Award” for his work on BLUE VINYL, which he both co-directed, and produced with Peabody Award Winner, Judith Helfand, for HBO.  That film, about the poison plastic vinyl, also garnered two Emmy Nominations: one for Research, and one for Best Documentary.

Gold, again with Helfand, co-directed, produced, and shot EVERYTHING’S COOL, about global warming.  It was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2007, and winner of the Audience Award at the Eckerd Film Festival.

Gold’s work as DP has been featured in many documentaries over the past decade, including LIFE IN PICTURES about the history of LIFE magazine and FRONTLINE MEDICINE about medical breakthroughs as a result of war, both recently shot for BBC television; AMERICAN TEACHER (shared credit), about teacher’s salaries;  THE GREATER GOOD about vaccine safety, which Gold also co-produced; BORN SWEET (shared credit), a short about arsenic in the water in Cambodia short-listed for an Oscar nomination;  COMA, a 90 minute special on HBO about recovery during the first year after a coma; NEW ORLEANS, a PBS special American Experience; COLONIAL HOUSE, a PBS reality series; TRUST: SECOND ACTS IN YOUNG LIVES about youth saving their lives through theatre; and three biography films – SAINT MISBEHAVIN’: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF WAVY GRAVY; TOOTS SHORE: BIGGER THAN LIFE; and A NAZI OFFICER’S WIFE, an A&E special about a jewish woman who survived WWII by marrying a Nazi.

Prior to concentrating on feature documentaries, Gold’s camerawork was frequently seen on Saturday Night Live, Dateline NBC, and the Hallmark Channel.

Gold was an Artist in Residence at Vassar College in the Spring of 2007, and has taught several semesters of Digital Cinematography at the New School in NYC – a hands on course to advance camerawork and lighting skills through an appreciation of art history and the aesthetics of story telling.

He is the very proud dad of his 2+ yr. old  son Oliver which is his best production to date, now playing (and laughing) in Brooklyn NY.  Oliver was co-produced with his funny beautiful wife Jennifer Ostrega-Gold.
